Oilseed Rape

Globally, it is ranked as the third most important oilseed crop after soybean and palm. Plant breeders developed oilseed rape from the “weed” rapeseed (Binapus oleifera) & the first double zero variety was marketed in 1974.

While oilseed rape is a profitable crop in its own right its inclusion in a rotation will break the lifecycle of soil borne diseases such as take-all and will help to control difficult grass weeds such as wild oats, Brome and ryegrasses. It is the best entry for wheat given a 31% increase in yield when compared to continuous wheat.

The long term viability of oilseed rape looks good between feed and fuel markets. Bretts  have the latest agronomy approach to the crop and we offer forward contract prices.
